    Hi Steve,
My apologies if this has been asked and answered before; although it was not released by AF, did you get to remaster Bad Company Running with the Pack?
    Thanks

Do you like the music of Johnnie Ray?
Not a lot of talk about him here, yet I enjoy his recordings and he has had a colorful career.
Booze troubles, sexuality, and a sometime considered pre-cursor to Rock 'n' Roll....
Do you have a favorite song or recording?

    Steve,

You know these expensive, $400+ albums pressed by "The Electric Record Company" - is it purely hype? Or is it possible some might genuinely sound amazing?

I'm wouldn't hold your breath waiting for an answer to that. SH is rightly very circumspect about dissing other companies.

Hello Steve, I’ve asked you about Bing Crosby before, but I am back to ask another question. What are your favorite recordings/albums from him?

It's not hype but Martzy is one thing. Love Forever Changes is only going to sound as good as the tape. And that's not wonderful.

Sonny Rollins Way Out West? C'mon, that already had the audiophile treatment. Why pick that?? Heck, you could hire Sonny to come over to your house for $400.00.

I wasn't expecting some shade to be thrown lol, just if it is logically possible for anything of that scale to be actually "better" and it seems as if it could be based on the answer but it obviously depends on master tapes/etc

I'm on a Cream spree. Just bought Disraeli Gears UK mono first press and wanted Wheels of Fire. I wanted it on vinyl but after reading Steve and your comment regarding the master tapes and the sound of the DCC 24K discs, I done bought it off the Bay. Pretty decent price. Plus I wanted Anyone for Tennis....

I was leaning towards vinyl but I did not know how the MFSL remaster sounded. If they cleaned up the master tapes as well as Steve did...Anyone have the DCC and MFSL LP's to compare?

From memory, the MoFi vinyl wasn't outstanding, but the DCC CD set certainly is. The CD set is a thing of beauty - I can only imagine what the vinyl DCC presentation would have been like, and it may be wise to ask @Steve Hoffman to recount his tales of preparing the Wheels Of Fire remaster yet again.

    Thanks!

I bought the DCC 24K CD's yesterday on EBay for a very good price. Can't wait to get them.

Dang, I'd love to hear Steve's tales of preparing Wheels of Fire...He did say on this thread that the master tapes weren't so good and he did his best. Sounds like his best was great!

Steve, You remastered Howlin' Wolf's Moanin' In The Moonlight for the Chess Master Series in the 80s. In 2018, Geffen reissued the album and included a photo of the supposed master tape box. The common consensus is that the master tape is most likely gone. Does this look like it could actually be the real master tape box?

I thought he'd given some EQ suggestions for "ugly pink." Is this the only post where he did so?

Re-mastering...Is it really as bad as we think?
