    Dear Stax O'Wax,
This is probably the cruelest idea I've ever seen around here.

I'll take Made In Japan + Deep Purple In Rock, without which life would be a mistake. Good job I have the rest of their discography already burnt into my brain.

In Rock - easy decision, the best Gillan album by a mile and I won’t have to listen to Smoke on the Water
Burn - trickier, I love both MkIII albums and like the fact that they lurched even more into funk on Stormbringer, but I think the songs are marginally more consistent on Burn
Now What?! - a tricky one, I love Steve Morse but I don’t think he’s a great fit for Purple stylewise, and he really has to hold back his natural style to even fit in at all. That said he’s their longest standing guitar player so it’s fair to have a Morse-era release, I think this is their most interesting one with the amount of proggy stuff they put in.

I was thinking the opposite. The Bob Ezrin trilogy.
I've played all the other DP albums so many times (apart from S & M), that the most recent one's would be both enjoyable and fresh.

For me, it’s the first three (Mk. 1) albums. Easy enough. All I need from DP.

I’ve not yet heard the Royal Albert Hall Concerto though. I’ll have to seek that out.

Made in Japan is technically considered a 2 disc selection. (do you people not read the thread?).
You will have to drop one of your other selections or reconsider the whole deal.

Oops sorry! Can I take the 2disc 98 version and leave the bonus disc out! Just kidding! Well that changes things!

I’ll sub in shades for MIJ so:
    Shades
    Fireball
    Machine Head

You will get tired of exotica and want to "rock the house" eventually.

Surely Desert Island Discs are individual songs not albums? Too easy to pics THREE albums!
