I think most of the songs mentioned so far are far too “cool” for the intention of the thread.
I think Debbie Reynolds’ “Tammy” might be nearer the mark. (Gets me every time).

I am hardly a fan of The Beatles, which makes it pretty difficult to justify and explain my love for a couple of their songs. While many may not consider the songs I'm about to mention as corny, I certainly think they are when viewed within the context of modern pop, and I often tear up with joy and sentimental feelings when I hear them. My all-time favorite song bar none is Here Comes The Sun and another favorite is Do You Want To Know A Secret, the latter of which was issued as a single here in the United States on the Vee-Jay record label and reached #2 on the BillBoard HOT-100 the week ending May 9, 1964!

I keep meaning to check them out, but it hasn't happened yet.

For some reason I associate I Love You, with another great track, to me

Judy Tzuke - Stay With Me Til Dawn
I think I heard them around the same time

I agree wholeheartedly, but I think a lot of people believe that if you shed tears during a song, that automatically renders it "corny." None of these songs are the least bit corny to me either, but I've had to accept that there are people out there who respond to stuff like this by dismissing it as "corny," maybe as a defense mechanism for themselves.

"Here Comes the Sun" was one of my picks for this. I always liked it but since my uncle passed away this summer it really changed how I hear the song. I associate him with a lot of pleasant memories from my childhood, and during those years I listened to the Beatles pretty relentlessly. This was one of their first songs that hooked me, and I just associate it with him, so for me its status as a weeper is tied to a lot of complicated emotional stuff for me.

When I was a child, there was a tv-series called "Tammy, das Mädchen vom Hausboot", which was the German version of the American original. The title-track had been translated into German. Everytime I heard this song I had to fight my tears - which is still true today as I just found out by clicking on the video.....thanks for bringing back this memory.

Yep, that’s what I understand the thread title to mean.

The Seekers had another one, too, with The Carnival Is Over.

80s Ladies - KT Oslin. It's corny and manipulative, not to mention bombastic, but there's something about it - a hint of truth, perhaps, particularly in the way that it reverts to a childlike nursery rhyme at the end - that hits me every time I hear it.

When I was a little kid I would get really sad when the Seekers' "I'll Never Find Another You" would come on the radio...Judith Durham had that great bittersweet voice.
