Have a question about CD players. I have 2 changers, an Onkyo 6 disc and a Harmon Kardon 5 disc. I took both apart to clean pick up and found they both use the same laser pick up. I have them connected to my pre pro via coax digital connection. The Onkyo has a noticeably louder output than the HK. This is using the same coax cable. What else in the player is utilized other than the pick up if I’m using the D/A in the pre pro?

The louder output has nothing to do with the laser pickup. It's the analogue stage - the signal goes from the pickup to the DAC, and then from the DAC out to the line-level output of the player. The players should both have 2V output, but units vary and one might be outputting lower or higher voltage than the other - or one might have a variable output that's set below maximum.

But isn't he saying that he's using the digital output and not the analogue?

Whoa - right you are! My fault. Sorry.

    That is strange!
